Zakat

Zakat and Fitra (during Ramadan) are collected and distributed to local Muslims through the SBIA Zakat Committee. Zakat donations are not used for any SBIA expenses (construction or operations) and are fully directed towards the needy in our community.

  • Eligibility Criteria for Zakat: Applicants must own less than the Nisab: 7.5 tola (87.48 grams) of gold or 52.5 tola (612.36 grams) of silver, or cash equivalent to the current market value of 52.5 tola (612.36 grams) of silver.
  • Accuracy of Information: Applicants are required to provide complete and accurate information to determine the appropriate amount of financial assistance. False information will lead to automatic rejection.
  • Submission Guidelines: Only one form per family should be submitted, and it should be filled out by the head of the household.
  • Approval Disclaimer: Submission of the form does not guarantee approval.
  • Information Sharing: The information provided may be shared with other masjids and organizations.
  • An applicant must not be directly related to a Director, Trustee, or employee of the South Bay Islamic Association.
  • Personal Information: Full name, address, phone number, email address
  • Reason for Request: Detailed explanation of your need for financial assistance
  • Referral Information: How you were referred to SBIA (if applicable)
  • Household Information: Number of persons in household with details (name, relationship, age & income for each member)
  • Income Sources: List all sources of income with monthly amounts
  • Amount Requested: Specific amount of financial assistance being requested
  • Documents to Upload:
    • Driver’s license (photo)
    • Supporting documents including unpaid bills
  • Residency: Date since you’ve been a resident of United States of America
  • Previous Assistance: Whether you’ve requested help from SBIA before and when
  • Other Organizations: List any other organizations you have requested financial help from
  • Social Security Number
  • All Zakat applications are reviewed and processed off-site.
  • Calling the Masjid phone number or visiting the Masjid in person will not expedite the review or processing of your application.
  • SBIA issues assistance checks once per month. We do not provide assistance through Zelle or cash payments.
  • Any harassment or inappropriate conduct toward SBIA staff may result in the automatic rejection of the application, and neighboring Masajid may be informed as necessary.
