No God but God, Ten Years After 9/11: A Conversation with Reza Aslan

De Anza College-Visual & Performing Arts Center

21250 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA

“Ten years after the attacks of 9/11 an internal struggle is taking place among Muslims across the world over the meaning and message of Islam in the 21st century. What has occurred since that fateful day amounts to nothing short of a civil war that is tearing apart the worldwide Muslim community, as a new generation of Muslim youth in Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, and beyond are clamoring for their rights and freedoms. Welcome to the Islamic Reformation.” – Reza Aslan

Join us for an evening with renowned author, scholar, and public intellectual Reza Aslan. More timely and prescient now than during its initial release six years ago, his international best-seller No God but God: The Origins, Evolution and Future of Islam is set to be re-released in a second, updated edition, for the ten-year anniversary of 9/11. In this talk, hosted by the Islamic Scholarship Fund, Reza will speak broadly about the wave of revolutions spread throughout the Middle East as a revolution for the spiritual direction of Islam, spearheaded by socially conscious and politically active young Muslims from all over the region. Motivated above all by a hunger for self-determination, upward mobility, and political freedom—indeed, precisely the values the ISF hopes to encourage by building an institutional presence for Muslim-Americans grounded in the liberal arts, social sciences, and humanities—it is the youth bulge in the Muslim world, Aslan argues, in their struggle against reactionary tendencies seeking to revert to Islamic austerity, that will ultimately determine the future trajectory of Islam.

Your involvement with ISF will allow us to continue our work to support Muslim students who will represent Islam in its right way. We carry out this mission by providing scholarships to Muslim students and individuals who are active in the Muslim community. In offering the American-Muslim perspective, we seek to empower students in the fields of humanities, social sciences, liberal arts and law in order to encourage and support the future Muslim lawyers, politicians, writers, journalists, film makers and academicians of the society. ISF’s efforts can be achieved with your support. Please visit our event page to purchase your tickets. (General Admission $20.00 and Students $10.00)
