Each grade level has two periods: Qur'anic Studies (recitation, memorization and teachings of Qur'an) and Islamic Studies (Aqidah & Fiqh, Morals & Manners, and Seerah/Social Studies).

Classes are held at the SBIA campus at 2345 Harris Way, San Jose. Field trips may be organized on occasion, and classes may also be conducted online using various platforms as required.

Continuing and new families

• Continuing students must register during the priority registration period announced each year, typically at the end of April.
• Continuing families are guaranteed enrollment subject to satisfactory completion of requirements, completion of parent volunteer hours by the date priority registration opens, and payment of fees at registration.
• New families may register during General Registration (typically in May) if there are vacancies.
• Registration remains open at least the first two weeks of the fall term, subject to capacity, and closes earlier if class limits are met.

Fees and assistance

• The tuition schedule for the current year is posted online. Fees include books and the snack provided during break.
• Books lost by children will be replaced only after parents pay for the new books.
• Families needing financial assistance should contact SBIA for zakat assistance; SBIA verifies eligibility. Financial arrangements must be in place for registration to be complete.
• SBIAIS does not discriminate on the basis of national origin, race, or gender, and reserves the right to refuse admission at its sole discretion.

Refund policy

Cancellation requests must be made in writing, in person at SBIAIS, on the first day of the program year. If the request is received by the time of assembly on the first day, SBIAIS refunds all paid fees less $50 per child. If registration is cancelled or withdrawn after the assembly on the first day, no fees will be refunded.

Parent contact information

Parents provide addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses at registration. Those email addresses are used for all communication from SBIAIS and for audit purposes such as matching volunteer hours. If any contact information changes, it is the parent's responsibility to update it with the administration.

Each student is assigned a unique ID number at registration. The ID and its barcode are sent in the welcome email prior to orientation and are used for tracking attendance and audit purposes. Keep the ID handy — it is required for absence forms and communication with the administration.

Each student's picture is taken at orientation for badge purposes, and a scannable badge is provided within the first two weeks. Students must wear this ID at all times while at SBIAIS. A fee is charged to replace lost badges.

• Classes are offered for KG, grades 1 through 7, Youth Boys (grade 8+), and Youth Girls (grade 8+). In exceptional cases SBIAIS may place a student in a lower grade.
• To be admitted into Kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old and attending Kindergarten in their regular school.
• SBIAIS may ask for legal documents, such as a birth certificate, to confirm a child's age.
• Children in 6th grade and higher are expected to know how to perform Salat.

SBIAIS administration reserves the right to modify the format of the class day to meet the needs of the community or under extenuating circumstances.

• Students are expected to exhibit good moral character: respect toward teachers, staff, and fellow students; courtesy and helpfulness, especially toward younger students; and refraining from bad or inappropriate communication, verbal or non-verbal.
• Students must follow the SBIAIS dress code and wear their SBIAIS-provided ID at all times during program sessions.
• Use of skateboards, rollerblades, and roller shoes is prohibited.
• SBIAIS operates a CLOSED CAMPUS. Administration permission is required to visit a classroom or pull a student out. Students may not leave the premises during program hours without consent and proper authorization — no exceptions.
• Students must not damage SBIA property and may not chew gum on SBIA property.
• Intoxicants, weapons, and sharp objects are absolutely prohibited.
• Cell phones may not be used during assembly or class hours; devices used during prohibited times may be confiscated and may lead to disciplinary action.
• Announcements are made during assembly and emailed to parents; students should pay close attention to them.
• SBIAIS is not responsible for children after dismissal at 1:45 PM.
• Parents are not permitted in classrooms without the administration's permission.
• Audio/video recording is permitted only by the administration or authorized representatives. SBIAIS may use photography and videography of activities for marketing and promotional purposes.
• No fundraising is permitted on SBIA premises unless authorized or sponsored by SBIAIS or SBIA.
• Early departure requires a form signed by a parent or guardian and countersigned by administrative staff. The person taking the student home must present a government-issued photo ID. Early departure checks end at 1:15 PM when the Dhuhr adhan is called.
• A waiver of liability is required for student participation in field trips.
• No eating, drinking, or cell phone use is permitted during the assembly.

• Regular attendance is essential — it keeps students on pace with the teacher's lesson plan and instills that Islamic education is at least as important as other activities.
• Attendance may be taken multiple times each program day.
• Parents must notify the administration of an illness or other absence before 9:00 AM on a class day using the online absence form. All missed work should be made up before returning to class.
• Parents may communicate with teachers through SBIA/SBIAIS email addresses. Please do not ask teachers for personal emails or phone numbers.

Enforcement

Three consecutive unexcused absences, or a large number of non-contiguous absences during the year, could result in monetary penalties, suspension, and/or expulsion from the program. Make-up activities may be offered at the administration's discretion.

General rules

• Clothes should be loose fitting and not reveal the detailed shape of the body — for both boys and girls.
• Clothes containing obscene or offensive slogans or messages are not allowed.
• No underclothes showing.
• No tight or see-through clothes.

Girls

• Hair should be covered with a headscarf.
• If pants are worn they should be full length; shirts should be long sleeved and fall below the hips.

Boys

• Pants are full length and relatively loose (no excessively loose pants that fall below the waist).
• No shorts of any length.

What parents can do

1. Review the information in these guidelines with your child(ren).
2. Remind them why modesty is important for Muslims.
3. Be an example.
4. If the administration deems a student's attire inappropriate, parents may be called to bring a change of clothes.

• Every student is expected to participate in the prayer — it binds what they learn in the classroom with this essential feature of our faith.
• Parents are encouraged to join the prayer, which provides a strong sense of community spirit.
• There should be no talking, discussion, or other distractions during the prayer.

• Poor academic performance and/or attendance is grounds for expulsion from the program.
• The administration may hold a student back if teachers feel insufficient progress was made. A student must pass both classes to be promoted; failure in one requires repeating the class.
• Students may only repeat a class once. Any student who fails the same class twice will not be allowed to re-register.

• Snacks and any needed supplies are provided each program session.
• No outside food may be distributed to students by unauthorized persons.
• No food is allowed in the classrooms — snacks should be eaten in the assembly/dining area.
• Wrappers, napkins, and other garbage should be thrown in one of the trash receptacles found throughout the building.

SBIAIS may suspend snack service during extenuating circumstances such as a public health emergency. Parents will be notified if they need to provide substitute snacks and of the rules to follow during that period.

Facility rules

• Do not write or mark on SBIA property (walls, doors, bathrooms, lockers, notice boards, inside classrooms).
• Do not remove material posted in classrooms or hallways, and do not write on anything posted.
• Put back any furniture moved during class to its original location.
• Do not write on or erase the board unless it is related to a class learning activity.
• Do not take, mishandle, or destroy any materials within the classrooms, and do not touch or move anything in the class.
• Do not borrow anything (pencils, tissues, etc.) from the class, and do not remove or move anything from students' desks or the teacher's desk.
• Do not turn on TVs or projectors — only teachers may do this.
• Do not eat or drink in the class.
• Students are not allowed in the classroom at any time, including break, without an adult present. No parents or guests are allowed in the classroom without the administration's permission.

• Read and follow up on emails sent by teachers and the administration.
• Make sure your child gets to their classroom safely.
• Pick up children promptly at 1:45 PM after Dhuhr Salat. SBIAIS is not responsible for children left alone after 1:45 PM.
• Advise and encourage your child to respect and obey the rules.
• Be sure your child attends the program regularly and on time.
• Make sure your child has all necessary books, stationery, and supplies. Books are provided by the program; lost books must be paid for.
• Participate in all parent-teacher conferences and discuss report cards with your child.
• Ensure homework assignments are completed and remain informed of your child's performance, activities, and lessons.
• Ensure your child is dressed modestly, and dress appropriately yourself when entering SBIAIS/SBIA premises.
• Pay fees on time, in full at registration or in installments per the schedule provided.
• Participate actively in SBIAIS events throughout the year and sign up as volunteers.
• Any parent who disrupts the operation of SBIAIS and/or creates conflicts will have their children's registration cancelled.
• If you hear something from your child that sounds strange or wrong, please verify it with the teacher directly instead of spreading misinformation.

Volunteering requirement

Volunteering is a critical requirement for families — the program is entirely volunteer run and cannot be sustained without parent participation.

At the beginning of each academic year the administration determines the number of volunteer slots required, divided by the number of students enrolled to set a per-student volunteering requirement.

A sign-up system is provided; modifications may be made no later than 9:00 PM the evening before each session. Later changes are not guaranteed to be reflected.

A volunteer coordinator is assigned for each task and their information is posted on the SBIAIS notice board. Parents must check in with them at the start of their slot to receive credit.

No-shows leave tasks un-serviced and block other parents from signing up, and are penalized with a negative credit.

Volunteer hours must be completed prior to the priority enrollment date to qualify for priority registration the following year.

• Attend all classes, every program day, on time.
• Be prepared for each class with appropriate supplies and assignments.
• Do all assigned reading, homework, and test preparation.
• Be properly dressed.
• Show respect towards others, both students and teachers.
• Obey all SBIAIS rules.
• Do not move, change, or damage material at SBIA facilities.
• Inform parents about announcements and memos.
• Gather missed assignments and arrange makeup tests in case of an absence.
• Students are not allowed in the classroom without an adult being present.

• Damaging SBIA property
• Skipping classes or excessive absences
• Extremely poor academic performance
• Leaving the SBIAIS premises without permission
• Fighting with or insulting other students
• Violating or not following any guideline in this document
• Any action determined to be bullying or harassing a member of the SBIAIS community

Disrespectful behavior towards teachers or staff — by students or their parents — or a complete lack of academic progress may result in strict and immediate disciplinary action, including suspension, fines paid to a charity, and/or expulsion from the program.

Disciplinary action may include

• Removal from the class for the day
• Parent notification and/or conference
• In extreme cases, removal from the program for the remainder of the year

Parental liability

The parents of a child who causes damage to property or injury to another person on SBIA premises will be held responsible for all damages and liabilities.

Liability of the program

SBIA is committed to providing a safe environment for all attendees and every effort is made to ensure the safety of children, parents, and staff. Parents are responsible for making sure their children safely get to class and are promptly picked up after the program.

In case of any unforeseen event that causes any kind of harm or injury — physical, mental, or emotional — to anybody associated with the program, including parents, students, staff, and their belongings, SBIA and SBIAIS will not be held responsible.

Consent to these rules and guidelines is a condition for registration at SBIAIS. Individuals teaching, volunteering, or participating in administrative duties are expected to abide by them.

1. Students under 18 must obtain parent/guardian permission for use of and access to the virtual classroom.
2. The virtual classroom substitutes for time a student would otherwise spend in class and should be accessed as such.
3. Classroom links, meeting links, and passwords may only be used for SBIAIS-related activities and may not be shared or used inappropriately.
4. Students must immediately tell a teacher about messages and websites containing inappropriate material.
5. Students may not use the virtual classroom to break the law or SBIAIS rules, or to encourage others to do so.
6. Students may not use the virtual classroom to harass or bully others.
7. Students may not send or post false or harmful information about others.
8. Students may not post threats, instructions on breaking into computer networks, threatening or obscene material, or any material deemed inappropriate by the administration.
9. Students may not use the virtual classroom to arrange to physically meet someone they have met online.
10. Students may not spam or send email to large numbers of recipients to advertise a product, service, or event.
11. Students may not access web-based email without permission of the teacher and their parent or guardian.
12. Students may not offer for sale or purchase any products or services.
13. Students may not inappropriately access and/or damage another network (hacking).
14. Students may not visit social networking sites except with teacher and parent permission and after reading each site's terms of service.
15. Students may not send or post personal contact information about themselves or others.
16. Students may not place copyrighted material on any system without the author's permission.
17. Students who violate these rules may lose access to the virtual classroom and may be subject to discipline under the student code of conduct, as well as the law.
18. The administration reserves the right to monitor all activity and information stored on its electronic network. Students should not expect that their use of the virtual classroom is private.
19. Use of the virtual classroom constitutes acknowledgement of these policies and an agreement to abide by them.
20. The administration reserves the right to amend or modify these policies at any time, with notice provided by email to the address given at registration.
