Start of RamadanSouth Bay Islamic Association adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed, verifiable naked-eye sighting of the new crescent moon. Due to multiple such sightings, Ramadan will begin Monday, June 6, with first Taraweeh on Sunday, June 5. |
Childcare
Arrangements will be available each night. We encourage the community to use this facility in order to make the Taraweeh prayers a pleasant experience for all. |
Taraweeh PrayersInshaAllah, we will have 20 rakah taraweeh prayer each night at SBIA. Taraweeh will be led at Masjid al Mustafa by Qari Zakariae El Mekkaoui and Hafidh Zain Abaumer. Khatm Qur’an at Masjid al-Mustafa will be on the last weekend of Ramadan (date to be announced once the day of 1st Ramadan is confirmed). At SBIA Downtown, the Taraweeh will be led byHafidh Hassan Haq and Hafidh Sufiyan Tihami. Khatm at Downtown will be on the night of 25th Ramadan. |
IftarAlhamdulillah, the community has stepped up and sponsored iftar at Masjid al-Mustafa for the whole month. We will have daily iftar for singles and community iftar on Saturdays at Masjid al Mustafa. We will only have singles iftar at Downtown. We have many spots open for sponsorship ($1000 per iftar). Eid al-FitrInsha-Allah, Eid ul-Fitr will be inside Expo Hall at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. Date will be based on moonsighting and announced on 29th Ramadan.

SBIA collects zakat and disburses to needy individuals in the local community. Please make your zakat contributions to SBIA (please mark these as zakat contributions clearly so as to keep them distinct from contributions to the masjid). |

Shaykh Alaeddin el BakriFriday, June 10 Shaykh Alaeddin Al Bakri began his study of Islam at a young age in North Africa and continued his education in the Islamic sciences in Jordan, learning from prominent scholars in the Muslim world. He has served as Imam at several Islamic centers. |
Shaykh Jamaal DiwanFriday, June 17 Jamaal Diwan was born and raised in Southern California. His mother is from Newfoundland, Canada and his father from Karachi, Pakistan. He grew up in a household that strongly emphasized good manners, sports, and education. Most of his childhood was filled with playing basketball, studying, and spending time with friends. |
Imam Tahir AnwarFriday, June 24 Tahir Anwar is an Imam, a teacher, an activist, a husband, a father, and most importantly, a servant of Allah. Born in London, England, he has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1983. Upon completing his religious studies in India, he served as the Imam of SBIA for well over a decade, and now serves the wider Bay Area community. |
Imam Dawood YaseenFriday, July 1 Dawood Yasin is currently the Coordinator of Learning Outside the Classroom at Zaytuna College. In his role, Dawood focuses on four primary areas: Residential Life, Community Engagement, Student Development and Student Counseling. Prior to coming to Zaytuna, Dawood worked as the Muslim Life and Service Trips Coordinator at the Dartmouth College Tucker Foundation. |
