SBIA Media Committee Hosts Successful Book Club Event
On Sunday, September 23rd, the Media Committee at SBIA held its first Book Club Event with over 40 people in attendance. The audience was very diverse and included Sunni and Shia Muslims, both born Muslims and recent converts, and also included several non-Muslims who came to the mosque for the very first time. The book discussed was The Qur'an: With or Against the Bible? by Dr. Ejaz Naqvi, a practicing doctor and President of the Islamic Center of Zahra in Pleasanton, CA.
The event was hosted by Sr. Farah Khan of the SBIA Media Committee, and began with a short talk by Imam Tahir Anwar, religious director of SBIA. Then Dr. Naqvi held a lively discussion with the audience on topics featured in his book such as what are the major similarities between the teachings of the Qur'an and the Bible as well as the Old Testament (Hebrew Bible).
The Media Committee hopes to have more similar events on a regular basis which will feature either a book or movie about which the American Muslim community can discuss and share ideas with the community at large.
