Day in the Park
This annual San Jose event was held last Saturday, October 6th at Lake Cunningham Regional Park, the largest skate park in California. It was a sunny autumn day and many families came out to enjoy free hamburgers, pumpkins, and other goodies. SBIA's team included Board Members Br. Adnan, Sister Fatma, and Br. Suleyman. Some other Board members stopped by for few hours. This is a great opportunity to build bridges with our neighbors and the larger community, and SBIA's contribution to the day was handing out ice cold water which people appreciated very much. Both in the Bible and our Hadith, there are rewards and blessings for giving water.
Many people were also interested in asking questions about Islam and taking some brochures and Qurans home. Many asked for Spanish language Qurans so we will Insha-Allah bring more of those next year. One woman said to us: “I am glad to see you guys out here. Both of my sons are Muslims and I want to learn more about Islam”. We received a great deal of positive feedback such as that. Alhamdolillah, it was a successful event for a variety of reasons. To top it off, some of our volunteers even won raffle prizes! We urge other SBIA community members to participate in next year's Day in the Park.
