Topic – 1: Overseas Internship by US Students
Monika Khan (Youth Speaker)
Graduate Student in Public Health at Columbia University in New York, Fall-2012
Monika Khan will share her recent experience interning abroad at ICDDR,B, an International
Health Research Institution located in Dhaka, Bangladesh (http://www.icddrb.org). The
ICDDR,B addresses some of the most critical health concerns facing the world today, ranging
from improving neonatal survival to HIV/AIDS. Since 1978, this Centre has trained more
than 27,000 health professionals from over 78 countries.
Topic – 2: Earthquakes
Suleyman Yesilyurt, Geological Engineer and a member of the SBIA Board of Trustees
The Bay Area is one of the seismically most active regions of the United States. The entire
Bay Area is an Earthquake Zone with numerous large and small faults slicing the Earth's
crust. In this short talk, I will provide a brief overview of the Bay Area geology, known
faults, current earthquake research, probabilities, risks/dangers posed by earthquakes. I
will have tips for how to prepare for earthquakes and what to do when they hit.
Topic – 3: Islamic Investing and Inheritance
