Eid al Adha on Friday, September 1
Due to multiple verifiable sightings of the new crescent of Dhul Hijjah on Tuesday, August 22, first of Dhul Hijjah will be on Wednesday, August 23rd with Eid al Adha falling on Friday, September 1.
SBIA adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed, verifiable naked-eye sighting of the new crescent moon globally.
The Day of `Arafah: The 9th of Dhu’l Hijjah and the Takbirs of Eid
The 9th of Dhu’l Hijjah is known as ‘the Day of `Arafah,’ because the pilgrims at Hajj gather at `Arafah in worship, which is one of the three central integrals of the Hajj rituals. Its importance is such that the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Hajj is `Arafah.” [Reported in most major hadith works]
Also remember to perform sacrifice if an individual meets the conditions of nisab. If unable to perform themselves, one can either contact a local halal butcher, or do it through any Islamic charity that offers the service.
The South Bay Islamic Association (SBIA) is one of the oldest Islamic Organizations in The Bay Area. Its headquarters are located in San Jose, CA. SBIA has been providing various services to the community since 1977 including the five daily prayers at two locations (San Jose Downtown, and Harris Way) and Friday prayers at both locations.
